Mountain Highways

Three Passes above the tree-lines

The Everest High Pass trek combines the three high passes of the Everest Region. Everest High Pass Trekking begins early morning with a flight from Kathmandu to the mountain airstrip at Lukla, {arguably the highest in the world} in the heart of the Everest region, after an approx three hours walk, we reach Phakding, then we continue north up to Dudh Kosi valley and then to Namche bazaar, where we spend a day for acclimatization. The next day, we continue our trekking to the Everest high passes of Kongma-la pass, Cho-la pass and Renjo-la pass respectively.

The trek starts at the Hillary Airport in Lukla and the Tibetan trading center of Namche bazaar and continues up to the remote Chhukhung valley, with an optional crossing of the Kongma La pass to reach Kala Pattar and Everest Base Camp in the snow-capped Khumbu Valley, with the Khumbu glacier along side us. From here, we climb up and over the glaciated Cho La pass to reach the turquoise Gokyo lakes, Gokyo Ri (peak) and the surrounding 8000m peaks of the Gokyo valley. We conclude our heroic trek by crossing the awesome Renjo La to the traditional grazing region of the Thame valley, which leads up to the Nangpa La and Tibet.

Our Journey to the Everest Crossways Trek begins with a cool historic sightseeing day in Kathmandu which offers a brief exploration of the temples, shrines, bazaars and restaurants of Kathmandu. We then take an inspiring mountain flight to Tenzing-Hillary Airport at Lukla on the following day followed by a trek up through the classic route to the Sagarmatha National Park adjacent with the mighty Dudh Koshi River, & colorful landscapes, Gompas and monasteries in the land enclosed by the towering peaks.  After reaching the summit of Kongma La, we compose our way to the Everest Base Camp as we marvel at the spectacle of Khumbu icefall cascading from the Western Camp.  Our trek to the view point of Kalapatthar is followed by the tough Climb through Cho La that finally takes us to the cobalt-blue lakes at Gokyo. After enjoying awe inspiring views from the fifth lake and Gokyo Ri, we make our way to the next great pass, the Renjo La. After a night halt in Marlung, we follow a little of the route used for centuries by the Tibetan Traders via Nangpa La to get to Thame.

Following the same classical route we drop down to Lukla and fly back to Kathmandu, leaving behind our foot prints but taking along with us life-long memories of one of the best trips in the world…in the shadows of the Everest.
